SIMPLE, NOT EASY
HAVE you ever run into a book shop and got stuck on a couple of books? I have.
Raj Ganpath's SIMPLE, NOT EASY is one of them. As the book says, it is non-nonsense, thought-provoking writings on health and fitness.
I have many books on health and fitness. 'Simple, Not Easy' is the latest and best.
There are 100 ideas to read, think and act in this book...
I am quoting the second idea from the book.
2# Fitness is a problem you solve everyday
We tend to be too hard on ourselves when it comes to health and fitness. We swear to eat well and exercise regularly. When we succeed, we feel proud. It makes our day. We experience a sense of achievement, and we feel hopeful and in control. When we fail, we feel terrible. It breaks our day. We experience guilt and feel depressed.
What if we were a little kinder to ourselves? Wouldn’t it be wonderful to remove the extreme feelings and self-judgement? What does it take to be calmer about our efforts and less volatile with our emotions? Clarity.
And the clarity we need is actually a realization that fitness is a problem that we need to solve one day at a time, for the rest of our lives. There is no start, there is no end and there is no rush. One good day or week won’t produce any great results, and one bad day or week won’t spoil it all.
Say you had a great day yesterday. You exercised, ate properly, stayed active and took care of yourself well. That’s wonderful. But this morning, the slate is clean. And you need to do it all over again.
Say you had a terrible day yesterday. You didn’t move much; you gave in to temptations and ate too much. That’s OK. Don’t beat yourself up. Because this morning, the slate is wiped clean. And you get another shot at this whole fitness thing.
Irrespective of who you are – young or old, big or small, professional or amateur, male or female, beginner or big celebrity - fitness is something you need to work on every day. So, forget yesterday, however positive or negative it was. What’s done is done. Today is brand-new day, and you have a brand-new opportunity to build a better you.
So, are we ready for a fit life?
