JUST DO IT!

Just Do It!

I flipped through the dictionary in search of 'precrastination,' but it was nowhere to be found. Someone cleverly spun 'procrastination' into this fresh term. I’ve even nominated it for dictionary status—maybe it will make its grand debut this year!

Procrastination often pops into my mind, carrying its unmistakable cloud of negativity. It whispers, 'There’s plenty of time to do it later.' Yet, that promise of extra time rarely leads to action. More often, it means the task never gets done. And let’s be honest, who among us truly has all the time in the world?

Precrastination, in contrast, is all about harnessing that spark to get things done ahead of time. It means grabbing the first chance to act—like firing off a quick email reply, paying bills before they’re due, or finishing homework while others are still thinking about it. This proactive spirit deserves a spotlight wherever it appears.

Precrastination’s signature move is taking the fastest path to finish tasks early. But is it always a good thing? While precrastinators are often more proactive than their procrastinating counterparts, finding the right balance is key. The rush of finishing something right away can be addictive and rewarding. After all, being proactive tops the list in Stephen Covey’s famous book, The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People.

Studies show that you can turn precrastination into a daily habit with just three simple strategies:

1. Set Micro Goals: Tackle small tasks that need to be completed. Achieving these small goals can provide instant satisfaction.

2. Establish Artificial Deadlines: Deadlines are everywhere, shaping our days and even our lives. Rather than racing against the clock at the last minute, try finishing tasks a little earlier. By setting your own earlier deadline, you create a sense of urgency that is helpful.

3. Implement a Two-Minute Rule: If a task takes two minutes or less to complete, do it immediately. Whether it's responding to an email or making a quick phone call, just do it!

Just Do It... or.... or maybe wait until tomorrow (??) !
